GILL — November 22, 2022 — Gill-Montague School Committee unanimously forwards $40,000 in capital requests to Montague and raises substitute pay to $15 an hour. The committee voted 6-0 at its November 22 meeting to send two fiscal year 2024 capital improvement requests to the Town of Montague: a $20,000 roof repair for the Sheffield Elementary gym and auditorium complex and a $20,000 security door separating the Sheffield building from the district's administration wing. A separate 5-0 vote raised hourly substitute and non-union staff pay from $14.25 to $15.00, effective January 1, in step with the state minimum wage increase. Business and Operations Director Joanne presented a preliminary Chapter 70 state aid estimate of $8.5 million for fiscal year 2024, with a full draft budget due January 10 and a final budget vote expected in March. The committee also approved unanimously an out-of-state field trip to Keene State College for music students on December 10, with 60 free concert tickets secured by music teacher Alyssa Camo through a former professor.
