Gill-Montague School Committee approves $424K in warrants, manages superintendent conflict disclosure

GILL — August 8, 2023 — Gill-Montague School Committee approves $424,000 in warrants and votes to manage superintendent conflict of interest. The committee voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve two fiscal year 2024 warrants — $111,564.17 and $313,282.71 — the larger of which includes costs for the Massachusetts Association of School Committees conference in Hyannis. Superintendent Brian Dunleavy disclosed the hiring of his sister-in-law, Melissa De Lorenzo, as administrative assistant to guidance at the high school and middle school; the committee voted to route any unresolved grievances she files directly to the School Committee, bypassing Dunleavy, while also clearing him to continue in Unit C contract negotiations. Director of Business and Operations Joanne Bleier reported the district is preparing a collaborative five-year transportation bid with Franklin County partners for fiscal year 2025, with the goal of drawing competitive bids and lowering costs. A fruits and vegetables snack program previously limited to Hillcrest Elementary will expand to all district elementary schools this fall, funded by the state.
