Gill-Montague School Committee Approves Capital Requests, Honors Top Senior

GILL — December 8, 2020 — Gill-Montague School Committee honors top senior, advances capital and Innovation Pathways programs. The committee unanimously approved a fiscal year 2022 capital project list for town meeting submissions that includes roof work at Gill Elementary, floor tile replacement, and exterior repairs at the Montague schools, and approved accounts payable warrant No. 3112 for $214,205.92. Superintendent Brian Beck presented Turner's Falls High School senior Isabelle Ferrick with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence, noting her 107 grade average, five AP courses, and internship at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Principal Joni Menard announced that Turner's Falls is the first Franklin County high school to earn an Innovation Pathways designation, with six ninth-graders pursuing the healthcare and social assistance track, which carries a 100-hour senior internship and three industry certifications. Business and Operations Director Joanne reported that the town of Gill drew roughly $40,000 from its education stabilization fund this year, leaving about $117,000 in reserve, while the district awaits written confirmation from the state that depressed enrollment figures will not reduce Chapter 70 aid for fiscal 2022.
