Gill-Montague School Committee fills Montague seat, names interim vice chair

GILL — July 12, 2022 — Gill-Montague School Committee unanimously appointed Brooke Martineau to its open Montague seat and named an interim vice chair at its July 12 meeting. Business and Operations Director Joanne reported that the state Department of Revenue had overcharged the district by roughly $300,000 on the charter school expense side while overpaying approximately $127,000 in reimbursements, leaving a net $200,000 owed to the district that cannot be recovered until fiscal year 2023 — a situation she called "pretty tight" for the year-end closeout. The committee unanimously approved a $141,485.53 accounts payable warrant and authorized the chair to sign a fiscal year 2022 cleanup warrant dated July 15. Superintendent Brian reported that flooring at Gill Elementary finished one month ahead of schedule and abatement at Hillcrest Elementary wrapped up a week early, with the same contractor awarded both jobs. A Gill seat remains vacant and will be re-advertised in the Montague Reporter and Greenfield Recorder.
