Montague School Committee Sets January Deadline for Vacant Seat Applications

GILL — December 20, 2022 — Montague School Committee recognizes seven Adams scholars and narrows its elementary school building plan. At the December 20 meeting, the committee unanimously approved a fiscal year 2023 warrant of $121,693.11 and voted 6-0 to set January 24 as the deadline for letters of interest for a vacant Montague seat, following the resignation of Haley Anderson. Superintendent Brian reported that after a December 13 meeting with Town Administrator Steve Ellis, the district has abandoned a standalone school concept in favor of an addition and renovation at Sheffield Elementary to replace Hillcrest, with a Massachusetts School Building Authority statement of interest to be submitted before an April deadline. Director of Curriculum Gene briefed the committee on pandemic learning loss, noting that the district launched an elementary social-emotional learning curriculum review team the same day and that mid-year assessments will open in January. Madison Labourne, top-ranked senior in the Class of 2023 with a 108.3 weighted average, was recognized as a recipient of the National School Development Council Award for Academic Growth and Student Leadership.
