Gill-Montague School Committee Appoints Montague Member, Fills Vacant Seat
GILL — July 13, 2021 — Gill-Montague Regional School District School Committee unanimously appointed Joanna Mabuti to fill an open Montague seat, restoring the board to its full nine-member complement. The committee also approved five accounts payable warrants totaling roughly $545,923 to close out fiscal year 2021 and open fiscal year 2022, with new member Jennifer abstaining due to limited familiarity with the underlying billing detail. Superintendent Brian reported COVID-19 positivity in Massachusetts at 0.36 percent, with Franklin County at 59 percent fully vaccinated. Curriculum Director Diane Ellis told the board 187 students are enrolled across the district's summer programs, with Sheffield School running three two-week enrichment sessions of 78 to 87 students each. Newly introduced Assistant Principal Joey Cotwright, who is bilingual in Spanish, begins at Turners Falls High School and Great Falls Middle School, as the district separately conducts a finalist search for a new high school principal and a new director of teaching and learning. A floor remediation project at Gill Elementary, awarded to Compass Restoration for asbestos abatement and Classic Seamless Floors for new installation, must be completed before the end of August.
