Gill-Montague School Committee Approves $1.3 Million in Warrants, Opens Two Vacant Seats

GILL — June 28, 2022 — Gill-Montague Regional School District School Committee approved more than $1.3 million in warrants and opened searches for two vacant seats at its June 28 meeting. The board unanimously accepted a $425 Our Family Legacy Farm Scholarship from Natalie and Clifford Spatcher and a $3,000 visual arts scholarship in memory of Judy Cummings, donated by William Cummings. Superintendent Brian Ewert received an overall proficient rating from all seven evaluating members and told the committee he would not seek a salary increase until Unit A contract negotiations conclude. The resignations of Cassie Daum Keller of Montague and Timmy Valeria Smith of Gill left the board without a vice chair; the committee set a July 11 deadline for letters of interest from residents of both towns. A vote on naming the Turner's Falls High School softball field after longtime coach Gary Mullins was deferred until at least the early September meeting to allow broader community input.
