Gill-Montague School Committee Names Pool, Files Elementary School Building Application
GILL — April 11, 2023 — Gill-Montague School Committee unanimously named the Turners Falls High School pool after longtime coach and teacher Wesley Snapp and authorized an elementary school building application to the state. The committee voted 5-0 Tuesday on both measures, with community members including Athletic Director Adam Graves and alumni Kimberly O'Brien, Karen Green, and Jennifer Yankowski speaking in support of the pool naming. The separate vote authorizes Superintendent Brian to submit a statement of interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for Sheffield Elementary School at 35-43 Crocker Avenue, citing overcrowding, aging systems including 20-plus-year-old roofs and obsolete boilers, and inadequate accessibility. The committee also accepted a Melanson financial audit with no findings — at least the second consecutive clean audit — and voted unanimously to suspend Policy BDA, which had required officer elections within 72 hours of town elections, replacing that deadline with reorganization at the next scheduled regular meeting.
